Universal Pre-K

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is in its fourth year at Cleveland Hill.  The Universal Pre-K program is a developmentally appropriate, learner-centered educational program to help four year olds develop socially, emotionally, linguistically, culturally and intellectually.  The program has a strong emphasis on early literacy and early numeracy to help prepare children for kindergarten.  We have been very fortunate to have a four-year partnership with Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center.  This is a unique collaboration between the classroom teacher, the literacy specialist, and the parents.  Once a week, Mr. Matt Hitchcock, an expert in early literacy skills, comes into the classroom to provide direct instruction in the areas of auditory processing, phonological awareness, language activities and print awareness.  There is a weekly interactive literacy focused homework assignment and quarterly parent meetings to keep parents involved and updated on their child's progress.
