Brenda's Story

I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for the wonderful experience I had with your organization. Being diagnosed as a child with a hearing loss from the measles, we were told that nothing could be done because of damage to the nerve. Throughout my adulthood, I have had several more screenings with specialists who offered the same diagnose with little hope. Although my hearing loss is not as severe as some of your patients, the frustration that is met when struggling to hear conversations in everyday life was beginning to become more apparent. Your recommendation to my husband that I be re-screened has been a life altering experience. Beginning with the first moment I walked into the offices of Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center, I have been met with warmth and professionalism from each and every one of your staff members.

Upon my screening, Tracy evaluated each test score with an explanation, which impressed me since this was something that I had never been given the opportunity to witness. The screening found not only a loss in my left ear, but also a slight loss in the right ear and recommended hearing aids. A little apprehensive at first (since the last specialist said that hearing aides would not work!) I decided to give it a try. Tracy explained the different types of hearing aides and showed me the newest model that was becoming available on the market. I was fortunate enough to be able to join Tracy and the representative from Oticon to try out this model. I walked out of your offices that day and was amazed at what I had been missing after all these years. I have never had to adjust to the hearing aides, the Oticon Delta models are so light and easy to wear that I forget that they are on. Also, the fact that they come in designer colors seems to take the old stigma that hearing devices have had over the years and make them similar to wearing glasses as added accessories. I myself chose not to wear the boring beige, but went with Chameleon Green to make a fashion statement!

I am in awe of what I now can hear, whether attending a large gathering or by myself; I can only imagine how someone with a greater loss must feel when they are able to hear life in general for the first time, it truly is music to the ears!

Thank you seems so inadequate, so if you are in need of volunteers, may I be the first in line to offer my services to such a worthy organization.

Sincerely,
Brenda
