Home » Early Childhood Program » Early Intervention Early InterventionBuffalo Hearing & Speech Center offers Early Intervention Programs to serve children ages birth to 3 years who experience delays in development. The program is designed to improve development in speech and language, thinking skills, and fine and gross motor movement. The program uses a unique combination clinical and educational techniques to help children achieve their maximum potential. Our staff believe that children learn best through play in an environment that is positive, nurturing and natural. The Early Intervention Program is a statewide program administered by the New York State Department of Health and, in Erie County, by the Erie County Department of Health. What services are offered?Early Intervention has a strong family-centered philosophy, therefore the majority of children's services are provided in their homes or in community settings such as child care centers. A full spectrum of services are available to meet the individual needs of children and their families. Toddler classroom programs are available in Buffalo and in Silver Creek. The programs include a full spectrum of services, including special education, speech language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, service coordination, social work/psychology. Family members are an integral part of the early intervention team. Parent involvement is encouraged so they can learn techniques to use at home with their child for carryover of skills and greater success. Who is eligible for Early Intervention?Children ages birth to 3 years, who are diagnosed with a communication and/or a developmental disability may be eligible for the Early Intervention Program. The program is coordinated through the county in which you reside. If you have concerns about your child's development, contact the county's Department of Health Early Intervention Program. They will assist you in the referral process for an evaluation, and determine eligibility for programs. Once eligibility is determined, a service coordinator will assist you in accessing available services. What is the cost of the program? There is no cost to families for the services provided through the county Early Intervention program. Funding is provided by the state and county Department of Health. |
